What’s New On ArcGIS Online For September 2011?

For those that use ArcGIS Online on a regular basis, you would have noticed many new enhancements/changes this month. What’s new?

ArcGIS.com Map Viewer

  • Measure

    Measuring tools have been added for determining the length of lines, areas of polygons or the coordinates or points. Users has the ability to select the unit of measure they prefer. 

  • Overview Map

    The map viewer now also includes a built-in overview map. The overview map remains hidden until the arrow is clicked. The overview map displays an overview of the current basemap.

  • Bookmarks

    Bookmark functionality has been added allowing users to quickly navigate to a specific location. Bookmarks can be saved as part of the map.

  • Publish Web Applications Directly

    The ability to publish web mapping applications directly from the templates has been added. In the past, users would need to download these templates and host it themselves.

    The concept of sharing and publishing viewers is now simple with minimal configuration required.

    Once published, the viewer is available instantly.

  • New Configurable Web Application Templates

    New and configurable web application templates have been added as part of the new publishing methods as well. Once a viewer has been published, users can configure certain elements of the template easily.

ArcGIS Explorer Online Map Viewer

September has been a busy month for ArcGIS Online with updates to the main viewers. Some of these updates really enhance the experience of GIS in the cloud!
