Greenplum partners with Eagle Technology
Auckland, New Zealand. (February 2nd , 2010) — Eagle Technology has today announced its partnership with Greenplum Inc, a leading provider of database software for the next generation of data warehousing and large scale analytic processing.
As organisations gather and store information in increasing scale and complexity, there is the requirement to quickly access and analyse this information in order to improve business performance. The traditional tools used to manage data, both from a pure storage perspective as well as a tool perspective (i.e., database engines, etc.) don't scale very well, either technically or economically beyond a certain point.
Greenplum Database can also integrate with the cloud (private or public) to address this ‘big data’ problem by utilizing a shared-nothing MPP (massively parallel processing) architecture optimized for business intelligence and analytical processing using commodity hardware including HP, Dell, Sun, EMC and IBM. It allows a cluster of servers to operate as a single database supercomputer -- automatically partitioning data and parallelizing queries -- to achieve performance 10s or 100s of times of faster than traditional databases. All communication is via a network interconnect -- there is no disk-level sharing or contention to be concerned with (i.e. it is a 'shared-nothing' architecture). It provides top of the line performance at a cost–effective model for varying sizes of companies.
