Resilience in the Face of Disaster
New Zealand is considered high-risk for almost every possible catastrophe: Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Eruptions, Wildfires, Landslides, Tsunamis, Droughts and Cyclones are all hazards to various parts of New Zealand.
Emergency services and local Civil Defence groups are in the front line in helping New Zealand organisations and individuals to be as resilient as possible through the 4 Rs (Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery) and they are using Esri technology to allow then to be better prepared for emergencies of any type.
Cal OES sees where to send critical resources in a disaster
During the 2018 fire season in California, Esri assisted multiple agencies at command centres across the state. By analysing population data, weather patterns, and real-time road conditions, agencies like California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) better understood the potential impact of fires on local communities. With Esri’s help, Cal OES transformed from a 5 percent digital environment to a 95 percent digital platform in a matter of months to be better equipped to respond to emergencies.
Explore the ways Cal OES is using Esri to digitally transform their operations.
